In the depth of winter, while his wife and children are asleep, a man wakes up to hear strange noises outside his house. Looking out of the window, he spies, landing on the roof, St. Nicholas in a sleigh pulled by eight reindeer…Today’s reading is the well known Christmas favourite A Visit from St Nicholas. This poem was first published in 1823 and has influenced our ideas about St Nicholas and Christmas ever since its publication.
